LG Electronics announced on the 4th that it will carry out activities to raise awareness about the importance of environmental protection in celebration of World Environment Day on the 5th. It will utilize outdoor electronic billboards in cities around the world to display environmental protection videos, and various environmental protection activities will take place at business sites both domestically and internationally.
LG Electronics will screen a video produced by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to celebrate World Environment Day on outdoor billboards of LG Electronics in Times Square, New York, and Piccadilly Circus, London, until the 13th (local time). The video showcases efforts to reduce indiscriminate plastic use and to recycle waste plastic into eco-friendly materials such as regenerated fibers, aligning with this year's World Environment Day theme, "Ending Plastic Pollution," and emphasizes the need for everyone's attention and action to restore marine and soil ecosystems.
This event is part of the "LG Hope Screen" initiative that LG Electronics has been operating for 15 years since 2011. LG Electronics continues to provide free screenings of public interest videos produced by international organizations or NGOs on large billboards in Times Square and Piccadilly Circus.
Additionally, LG Electronics has designated World Environment Day as "LG Electronics Volunteer Day" and will conduct various environmental protection activities both domestically and internationally. This year, employees from 28 business sites around the world will participate in volunteer activities. The Indonesian and Kazakhstani branches will engage in tree planting activities, while the Singapore and Taiwanese branches will carry out natural cleanup efforts around nearby beaches and parks. In April, a "Waste Electronics Collection Campaign" was held at LG Science Park in Magok, Seoul, collecting waste electronic products worth 2,850 kg.
In Korea, LG Electronics will hold the "E-Circular Festival," a promotional event for eco-friendly home appliances in collaboration with E-Circular Governance, the country's only recycling association for discarded electrical and electronic products. The E-Circular Festival offers refunds of up to 50,000 won in Naver and Kakao Pay points for new subscriptions of products certified as "E-Circular Excellent Products" for their resource circulation capabilities at LG Best Shops nationwide until the end of this month. A total of 170 models, including TVs, washing machines, refrigerators, stylers, and dishwashers are eligible. E-Circular Governance assesses 11 criteria, including ease of recycling, reduction of harmful substances, and use of recycled materials, to grant the E-Circular Excellent Products certification.
Yoon Dae-sik, executive director in charge of external affairs at LG Electronics, noted that "various efforts to create a sustainable life together with customers will continue steadily."
