The voting for the 21st presidential election is taking place on the 3rd, and it seems safer for users who have replaced their SIM cards due to the recent SK Telecom hacking incident to bring physical identification rather than mobile identification.
According to the mobile communications industry on the 3rd, PASS announced through a pop-up notice that the PASS mobile identification can be used during voting. However, PASS added that if the SIM card has been replaced, re-registration for the identification service is necessary.
Users who have replaced their SIM cards must re-register for the identification service regardless of the type of smartphone, whether it is an Android operating system smartphone from Samsung Electronics, Xiaomi, Huawei, or an iPhone.
The Samsung Wallet mobile identification provided on Samsung Electronics smartphones is the same. After changing the SIM card, the identification stored in Samsung Wallet disappears, and the identification must be reinstalled after personal authentication.
Customers who changed SIM information through software (SW) with 'SIM rerouting' do not need to reset their certificates.
Also, if personal verification is done through the electronic certificate provided by KakaoTalk Wallet, reissuance is not necessary.
Additionally, when using the mobile identification provided by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, it can be used as is without needing to reroute.
Currently, valid forms of identification for personal verification include resident registration cards, driver's licenses, passports, public official certificates, national veterans' registration certificates (formerly national merit certificates), disability welfare cards, student ID cards, etc., all of which must be issued by government offices or public institutions and include a photo.
SK Telecom has been replacing SIM cards free of charge since announcing a large-scale SIM information hacking incident on the 22nd of last month.
