LG Electronics said on the 3rd that it will take the lead in the development and utilization of safer and more ethical artificial intelligence (AI) technology, emphasizing 'responsible AI.'

LG Electronics announced on the 2nd that it has signed a 'business agreement for global AI regulatory cooperation' with the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) AI Safety Research Institute. Kim Myung-joo, head of the AI Safety Research Institute, and Lee Sam-soo, Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) of LG Electronics, attended the signing ceremony.

The AI Safety Research Institute is a national-level domestic research organization for AI safety. It conducts research on AI risk assessment and response strategy development, development of AI safety guidelines and frameworks through analysis of global AI norms and regulations, and the study of protective mechanisms for future AI technologies.

LG Electronics plans to accelerate the securing of safety for AI technologies applied to products and services by receiving expert advice from the AI Safety Research Institute as a result of this business agreement.

In particular, through collaboration with the AI Safety Research Institute, LG Electronics aims to secure communication channels with AI-related institutions in major countries and working groups under international organizations, and also plans to jointly respond to global regulations related to AI, such as the European Union Artificial Intelligence Act. Joint research will also be conducted to implement 'responsible AI' that enhances AI reliability, safety, and ethical standards.

Lee Sam-soo, Vice President of LG Electronics, said, 'We will strengthen the planning and development processes for AI products and services based on AI governance, responsibly manage data protection and AI ethics, and ensure a differentiated AI experience.'
