To establish domestic artificial intelligence (AI) computing infrastructure, the government announced on the 2nd that it will re-advertise for the first round of recruitment for the operator of the national AI computing center, which had failed with a maximum investment of 2.5 trillion won.

The Ministry of Science and ICT stated that it will conduct the announcement for extending the national AI computing center construction project from today until the 13th. The application requirements remain unchanged.

In the first round of bidding that closed on the 30th, not a single corporation consortium placed a bid. It has been reported that the consortiums prepared for participation, including Samsung SDS, Naver, and Alice Group, as well as KT, Microsoft, SK Telecom, and Amazon Web Services, opted not to bid.

If at least one consortium applies in the re-advertisement, the bidding will not be deemed failed, and the respective consortium is expected to be awarded.

The national AI computing center construction project is a collaborative investment by the public and private sectors to establish a special purpose company (SPC) and to build the national AI computing center as a key infrastructure for the AI era.

Through this, the government plans to support ▲swift provision of advanced graphic processing units (GPUs) to industry and research sectors ▲creation of demand for domestically produced AI semiconductors ▲cooperation with global corporations ▲linkage of government R&D results.
