Kakao Mobility announced on the 29th that it has unveiled its future technology vision, including autonomous driving, to mark the 10th anniversary of its mobility platform "KakaoT" service.
On the 28th, Kakao Mobility held a special academic session at the "20th Suwon Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Asia-Pacific Conference" at the Suwon Convention Center and shared changes in services over the past 10 years and future plans. Key taxi organization officials, including Park Bok-kyu, president of the National Taxi Transportation Business Federation, and Park Kwon-soo, president of the National Individual Taxi Federation, also attended the event.
Ryu Geung-sun, CEO of Kakao Mobility, said, "KakaoT is the world's only 'taxi-hailing-based' mobility platform," adding that it has achieved innovation by transforming a taxi that had to be 'hailed on the street' into a service that can be summoned 'at the desired time and place' while growing as a domestic brand. He noted, "Autonomous driving technology will bring about a change comparable to the steam locomotive of the European industrial revolution," and emphasized that during this transformative period, Kakao Mobility will leverage crises as opportunities and continue to strengthen various competitiveness.
Park Sang-hyun, head of the marketing division at Kakao Mobility, stated, "A cooperative foundation that will contribute 20 billion won over the next three years has recently been established to ensure that these collaborative activities can continue," adding that it will strengthen the corporations' social responsibility through ongoing cooperative activities with partners.
Jang Seong-wook, vice president of Kakao Mobility's Future Mobility Research Institute, noted, "Future mobility will evolve into a form combining 'agentic AI' with autonomy and proactivity and 'physical AI' that impacts our lives through real actions, innovating lifestyles across daily life." He added, "Since autonomous driving technology cannot succeed with the efforts of just one company, we will move forward while preserving technology and data sovereignty through collaboration with major domestic and foreign autonomous driving companies, the transportation industry such as taxis, and related institutions."
