ATON noted that it presented a new mobile security solution, 'DefendUs', targeting the global market at the 'M360 Eurasia 2025' event held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, organized by the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) on the 28th.
DefendUs is a mobile-based security solution specialized in detecting smishing attacks, providing risk URL detection capabilities that identify malicious links in real-time across various messaging applications, including SMS, Instagram, Telegram, and WhatsApp.
DefendUs has been offered domestically as a 'Mobile Safety Service' through the three major telecommunications companies since this year. Following its participation in the M360, the company plans to establish partnerships with global telecoms and fully expand service supply beyond Korea.
During the 'The Power of Partnership' session at 'M360 Eurasia 2025' on the 22nd (local time), Deputy Minister Nam Tae-wook emphasized the importance of cooperation between telecommunications companies and security firms to respond to the increasing phishing and smishing attacks, explaining that telecommunications companies play a key role in protecting users amid the growing sophistication of mobile security threats. He particularly highlighted that utilizing the network infrastructure and user touchpoints held by telecommunications companies enables effective security service delivery, from real-time risk detection to immediate alerts.
Deputy Minister Nam stated, "DefendUs is a solution that goes beyond simple detection, continuously improving users' security behavior patterns through a cyclical structure of 'detection-management-education.' In particular, the 'Family Alert' function, which shares risk situations in real-time among family members, plays a significant role in protecting vulnerable digital groups."
Notably, DefendUs supports both iOS and Android, unlike existing antivirus solutions. Its strength lies in expanding protection coverage to include the web and social media, providing comprehensive protection for smartphone users against online threats.
Recently, smishing is characterized by various types of text messages masquerading as fines, package inquiries, congratulations, and obituaries, with the forms and text contents constantly updated according to the latest social issues, seasons, and holidays.
Deputy Minister Nam remarked, "The increasingly cunning mobile phishing crimes must be addressed through close collaboration among telecommunications companies, financial institutions, government agencies, and security firms," adding that "the DefendUs service can effectively manage data, utilize artificial intelligence technology, and enhance security through various partnerships."
Meanwhile, 'M360 Eurasia 2025' is the largest digital and telecommunications industry event in Central Asia, hosted by the GSMA, with the digital technology department of the Uzbekistan government participating as an official partner. It addressed key agendas such as generative artificial intelligence (AI), 5G networks, and cybersecurity.
