Chinese companies Xiaomi and Huawei are increasing their presence in the global wearable band market.
According to market research firm Canalys on the 28th, Xiaomi recorded a 19% market share in terms of shipments in the global wearable band market in the first quarter of this year, surpassing Apple to take the top spot. This marks the first time in about four years since reclaiming the throne after the second quarter of 2021. Shipments reached 8.7 million units, a 44% increase from the previous year. Huawei also saw a 36% increase in shipments compared to the previous year, securing 15% market share to rank third.
Apple is in second place with 16%, and Samsung Electronics is in fourth place with 11%. Although Apple, which recorded first place in the first quarter of last year, reported a 5% increase in shipments with 7.6 million units this year in the first quarter, it could not maintain its lead. Samsung Electronics shipped 4.9 million units during this period, experiencing a 75% growth compared to the same period last year. The global wearable band market in the first quarter of this year reached 44.6 million units, growing 13% year over year.
Jack Reedom, a Canalys analyst, noted, "Xiaomi upgraded the Mi Band and Redmi Watch series with new designs and advanced data features," adding that "effective product line connections and competitive pricing policies in emerging markets supported Xiaomi's growth."
