Global design software corporation Figma held a press conference at the Ellyena Hotel in Gangnam, Seoul, on the 27th, announcing the official launch of its Korean version. Figma is a web-based design and development collaboration tool that allows not only designers but also developers, marketers, and planners from various sectors to use it together. Established in 2015 in Silicon Valley, the company has grown rapidly and garnered industry attention during Adobe's attempted acquisition for $20 billion (approximately 27.468 trillion won) in 2022. Recently, it has formalized its IPO (initial public offering) to strengthen its independent trajectory.
At the press conference, Figma announced that it will officially expand Korean language support for its entire product line, including the user interface (UI). It will also collaborate with local partner DanGoonSoft to provide technical support and build an educational ecosystem.
Figma recently introduced four new AI-based products at its annual event, 'Config 2025.' ▲ 'Figma Sites' is a tool that enables design and actual website posting in one step, while ▲ 'Figma Make' is an AI-based generator that automatically creates functional prototypes using only text descriptions. ▲ 'Figma Buzz' is a tool that makes creating image assets for brand marketing easy, and ▲ 'Figma Draw' is a design tool enhanced with advanced vector drawing features like brush and texture effects.
Yamashita, the Chief Product Officer (CPO), noted, "In the past, when a designer drew a picture, a developer would write the code, but now the lines are becoming blurred." He added, "Figma aims to be a tool that connects all tasks from idea to product launch on a single platform." According to the company, one third of all Figma users are developers, and they have recently built servers that can connect with AI agents within code editors to enhance development productivity.
Yamashita explained the difference from competitors like Adobe and Canva, saying, "We focus on connecting the entire process of ideas turning into actual products, not just a 'part' of the design." He further stated, "When used correctly, AI makes designers more strategic," and added, "The essence of design lies in asking, 'What could provide a better experience?'
With the launch of the Korean version, Figma is accelerating its global expansion by releasing multilingual versions in Japanese, Spanish, and Portuguese. In Korea, major corporations such as carrot market, Woowa Brothers, and KakaoBank are already utilizing Figma.
