KT announced on the 26th that it has won a contract for the 'Remote Backup and Validation System Establishment' project based on public cloud technology for NH Nonghyup Bank. The company emphasized this as "the first visible achievement in the cloud market since establishing a strategic partnership with Microsoft (MS)." Remote Backup refers to securely distributing and storing information in a redundant separate system to prepare for unexpected situations such as disasters.

KT teamed up with MS last year to collaborate for five years in the fields of AI, cloud, and IT, amounting to an expense of 2.4 trillion won. The recent contract win in the primary financial sector was based on this collaboration. NH Nonghyup Bank plans to replace the traditional tape backup method (PTL, a method of physically storing data on magnetic tape devices, which is low in storage expense but takes a long time to recover and is complex to manage) with a public cloud-based remote backup system and automate the backup recovery verification process.

KT was selected as the public cloud management service provider (MSP) for NH Nonghyup Bank last year. Utilizing MS Azure Cloud, KT is directly designing and implementing an infrastructure architecture optimized for NH Nonghyup Bank's business environment and security requirements.

In addition, NH Nonghyup Bank plans to develop a cloud-based remote backup system with KT and enhance data backup and recovery speed. The aim is to provide stable financial services based on optimized data storage management and the scalability of information technology (IT) infrastructure systems. KT noted, "With this project, we plan to expand the market for cloud-based backup and disaster recovery (DR) services aimed at the financial sector and broaden our business scope with an advanced backup and recovery system that combines public cloud security (SPC)."

Ahn Chang-yong, head of KT's Enterprise Division (Vice President), stated, "KT's technological capabilities and expertise have been recognized as a strategic partner for NH Nonghyup Bank's digital transformation," and added, "Through this project, we aim to enhance cloud MSP services specialized for the financial sector based on our strategic cooperation with Microsoft, and actively leverage KT's differentiated AI and cloud capabilities to lead financial AX."
