Kakao announced on the 22nd that it has established a new company, 'Daum Preparation New Corporation,' by spinning off the Content Corporate-Incubated Company (CIC) responsible for the portal 'Daum.'
On the same day, Kakao held a board meeting and voted on the spin-off of the Content CIC. The Content CIC has become an independent corporation two years after its launch in May 2023 as a corporate incubated company (CIC). The new company is a 100% subsidiary of Kakao.
The new representative is expected to be Yang Ju-il, the current representative of the Content CIC. The new company plans to enhance efficiency based on an independent management structure and strengthen its business competitiveness. While utilizing assets such as short-form content, media, and community from Daum, it will continue to seek synergy with Kakao in artificial intelligence (AI) and content.
Currently, services operated by the Content CIC, such as Daum Mail, Daum Cafe, Daum Search, Daum News, and Daum Shopping, will be transferred to the new company. The new company plans to continue managing these services and complete the business transfer by the end of this year.
In addition, the new company will proceed with new hires. The strategy is to strengthen business capabilities by recruiting talented individuals in areas such as planning, development, infrastructure, and security.
Yang, the designated representative, noted, "We have taken the first step to create an environment where we can respond swiftly to the intensifying market competition," adding, "We will focus on new experiments and challenges to prepare opportunities for a rebound of the portal Daum under a faster and more flexible decision-making structure."
