Red Hat announced on the 21st that it has launched its next-generation enterprise Linux platform, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 (RHEL 10).

RHEL 10 provides a strategic and intelligent foundation that allows corporations' information technology (IT) departments to address increasing complexities, accelerate innovation, and build a more secure computing foundation for the future. RHEL 10 responds to the need for integrating AI workloads prevalent in the IT industry by providing a platform designed for agility, flexibility, and ease of management, while maintaining a robust security posture to prepare for future software threats.

In particular, it supports intelligent operations in complex environments through the introduction of AI-driven Linux management via LightSpeed. RHEL 10 incorporates 'Red Hat Enterprise Linux LightSpeed' to resolve core technological gaps necessary for Linux management. By directly integrating generative AI into the platform, it offers contextual guidance and actionable recommendations through a natural language interface.

It also features enhanced security capabilities for the quantum era. RHEL 10 is the first enterprise Linux distribution to integrate Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) compliance for quantum-resistant cryptography (PQC), taking into account the long-term implications of quantum computing on security. With a proactive approach, organizations can better defend against future 'pre-collection and post-decryption' attacks and meet evolving regulatory requirements. This includes quantum-resistant algorithms and quantum-resistant signature schemes.

RHEL 10 also responds to the integration of hybrid infrastructure and decision-making transitions through image mode, facilitating a transition in enterprise operating system paradigms. This container-native approach simplifies the build, deployment, and management of operating systems and applications into a streamlined, unified workflow. Customers can manage their entire IT environment with the same consistent tools and technologies.

Additionally, RHEL 10 supports teams in making more refined and informed package decisions for specific deployments by adding recommendations from the Red Hat Insights image builder package. Red Hat Insights provides insights into the Red Hat Enterprise Linux roadmap and lifecycle, enhancing the platform's future readiness.

RHEL 10 showcases new features such as ▲ hybrid cloud support for Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure ▲ IT toolkit expansion ▲ innovative stability ▲ exploration of new architectures ▲ fine-tuning of security strategies. In particular, the upcoming 'Red Hat Enterprise Linux Security Select Add-On' will provide more options and ease for Linux security.

Gunnar Helikson, vice president and general manager of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, noted, “With intelligent features leveraging generative AI, integrated hybrid cloud management through image mode, and a proactive security approach with quantum-resistant encryption, RHEL 10 provides a robust and innovative foundation necessary to thrive in the era of hybrid cloud and AI.”
