SK hynix announced on the 20th that Song Cheong-ki TL, who is responsible for the development of high-bandwidth memory (HBM), received the Industrial Medal of Honor at the '60th Invention Day Ceremony' hosted by the Korean Intellectual Property Office on the 19th.

Song TL was recognized for his contributions to discussions on next-generation HBM product development, review and patenting of hybrid bonding technology, development and patenting of 'GDDR6-AiM' with embedded intelligent semiconductor (PIM) functions, and standardization and patenting of DRAM technology by the JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Engineering Council).

Joining SK hynix in 2005, Song TL has worked as a memory design researcher for over 20 years, participating in the development of several DRAM products, starting with DDR2.

During this process, he filed and registered over 300 patents related to HBM and next-generation memory.

Several products incorporating the patents are already commercialized, generating economic value, and various innovations pertaining to future technologies are evaluated as important inventions that will take the lead in the market.

SK hynix stated, 'Efforts by Song TL in patent development and expanding the base have become a vital source for enhancing national and corporate competitiveness' and noted, 'We will continue to actively support the research and development activities of our members to further solidify the leading status that the domestic semiconductor industry has built.'
