LG Electronics stated that Jo Hwi-jae, head of the IP Center, received the Silver Tower Industrial Medal at the 60th Invention Day event on the 19th.
According to LG Electronics, Center Head Jo has contributed to securing a world-class intellectual property (IP) portfolio over the past 25 years.
Since 2020, Jo has served as the head of the IP Center at LG Electronics, leading efforts to enhance domestic and international patent competitiveness and contributing to the development of the economy of both corporations and the nation through increased patent royalty revenue.
Previously, last year, Kim Byeong-hoon, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of LG Electronics, received the Gold Tower Industrial Medal for his contributions to enhancing national competitiveness through advanced research and development of future technologies.
LG Electronics noted, "It is significant that our world-class research and development (R&D) innovations and efforts to secure patent rights have been continuously recognized for contributing to enhancing national technological competitiveness."
As of the end of the first quarter this year, LG Electronics holds 97,790 registered patents both domestically and internationally, about half of which are recognized global standard patents.
Securing standard patents plays a role in establishing the technology as an industry standard and enables other corporations to develop products based on it, promoting the advancement of the entire industry.
LG Electronics plans to continuously create world-class patent competitiveness not only in its core business areas but also in various future technology fields such as 6G mobile communications, vehicle-to-everything (V2X), artificial intelligence (AI), and quantum computing.
