LG Electronics announced on the 19th that it is strengthening user participation in resource recycling activities for discarded parts and is taking the lead in practicing a circular economy.
LG Electronics will launch the vacuum cleaner discarded parts resource recycling campaign, "Battery Return," in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, the Korea Environment Corporation, and E-Circular Governance until the 30th of next month. This campaign involves collecting the batteries and plastic of LG Electronics vacuum cleaners to recover valuable metals and plastics, and providing users with discounts on new part purchases.
Since 2022, LG Electronics has been conducting the "Battery Return" campaign annually to lead the resource recycling of discarded batteries, and this year it will expand the range of target products and parts. The product category for discarded battery collection will include robot vacuum cleaners, and wireless vacuum cleaners will also allow for the return of suction nozzle plastics.
This reflects the result of LG Electronics' own customer survey, which found that the most frequently replaced parts by customers using wireless vacuum cleaners are batteries and suction nozzle plastics. Through this, it is expected to raise awareness about this year's World Environment Day theme, "Ending plastic pollution," and serve as an opportunity for customers to practice plastic recycling.
Users who wish to participate in the campaign can return their vacuum cleaner discarded parts to any LG Electronics service center nationwide. After returning the discarded parts, users can receive discounts of up to 45,000 won on batteries and up to 51,000 won on suction nozzles when purchasing new parts for their LG Electronics vacuum cleaners.
There is also a method to apply through the online brand shop and return discarded parts to the nearest discarded appliance collection box. The locations of discarded appliance collection boxes can be found on the "Resource Recycling Action Platform." In this case, users can also purchase batteries, suction nozzles, and other items at discounted prices from LG Electronics' online brand shop.
Meanwhile, more than 116,000 users have participated in LG Electronics' "Battery Return" campaign over the past three years since 2022, with a total weight of collected discarded batteries reaching 90.1 tons and the number exceeding 200,000. The rare metals extracted from this have amounted to over 8.2 tons.
Jeong Gi-wook, head of the LG Electronics vacuum cleaner business, noted, "We have expanded the range of target products and parts this year to express our gratitude to the many customers who participated in the resource recycling campaign over the past three years," and added, "We will continue to engage customers in the resource recycling campaign through various activities and practice our ESG vision of 'a better life for all.'"
