On the 18th, the security company S-1 stated that its Crime Prevention Research Institute analyzed customer data from the last three years, from 2022 to 2024, and found that the number of theft crimes has decreased by approximately 33%.
Among all theft crimes, 38.4% were classified as 'attempted incidents' where offenders abandoned their plans due to security solutions being activated, such as the activation of CCTV or the dispatch of security personnel. It was analyzed that many offenders felt psychological pressure and fled when security solutions such as CCTV checks and personnel dispatch were in operation.
However, as the economic recession prolongs, crimes targeting cash, often for survival, continue to increase. Among the theft crimes where damages occurred, 'minor thefts' with damage amounts below 1 million won accounted for 81.8% of the total, with 79.8% of the targets being cash. Cigarettes and groceries have become major targets.
Analysis of the time periods in which theft crimes occurred showed that 70.6% of incidents happened during the late-night hours between midnight and 6 a.m. The occurrence of incidents was highest from 6 p.m. to midnight (19.9%), followed by 6 a.m. to noon (6.7%), and noon to 6 p.m. (2.8%).
As security demand increases, the number of customers for S-1's CCTV installations has shown double-digit growth rates every year since 2022. The sales of the artificial intelligence (AI) CCTV product, Smart Video Management System (SVMS), increased by 279% last year. SVMS contributes to enhancing crime prevention effects by quickly detecting unusual situations such as intrusions, disturbances, and loitering, and automatically notifying the administrator.
A representative from S-1 noted, "As the types and methods of crime become increasingly diverse, the security solutions available to prevent crime are also becoming more sophisticated. To prevent damage from crime and realize a safe daily life, it is essential to install tailored security solutions in appropriate locations."
