KT SAT announced on the 15th that it will collaborate with the ship management company KLCSM to initiate maritime digital transformation utilizing multi-orbit satellite services. The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding in Busan and plan to provide satellite services that combine Geostationary Orbital Satellite and Starlink (low Earth orbit) to accelerate maritime digital transformation.
According to this agreement, the two companies plan to collaborate on ▲ streamlining the digital management system for ships ▲ establishing a satellite communication network linked to the autonomous ship demonstration project ▲ enhancing ship safety and building a cybersecurity system ▲ improving seafarer welfare.
KT SAT CEO Seo Young-soo said, “I am pleased that this collaboration will accelerate the digital transformation of the shipping industry” and noted, “We will do our best to realize the era of smart ships.” KLCSM CEO Kwon O-gil said, “Based on advanced satellite communication technology, we will take the lead in improving seafarers' welfare and building a smart ship environment.”
KT SAT launched the XWAVE-ONE maritime integrated solution in March, which provides ultra-high-speed internet by consolidating multiple networks, including satellite and LTE. This solution is optimized for large ships, including Starlink data payment functionality and onboard network monitoring.
The Starlink-related features of XWAVE-ONE are expected to be offered as a commercial service once domestic user approval is completed in the second half of this year.
