On the 15th, SK Telecom announced that it would postpone the repayment of the principal and interest of lending for store owners affected by the suspension of new subscriptions and number transfers at over 2,600 nationwide agencies due to the hacking incident.
During a daily briefing held at Samhwa Tower in Jung-gu, Seoul, SK Telecom noted that approximately 870,000 replacement SIM cards would be delivered starting this weekend, and a total of more than 1 million SIM cards are expected to be secured by early next week. Additionally, the company plans to enhance staff training regarding SIM card replacement and rerouting processing, and to increase on-site support personnel.
On the 14th alone, 90,000 people replaced their SIM cards, bringing the total number of people who have replaced their SIM cards to 1.78 million. Currently, about 6.99 million subscribers have made appointments for SIM card replacements. Since the 12th, there have been 57,000 subscribers opting for SIM card rerouting.
SK Telecom added that it is in the process of forming a customer trust recovery committee and is promoting the objective participation of top experts from both domestic and overseas telecommunications companies.
