The ultra-slim smartphone 'Galaxy S25 Edge' from Samsung Electronics, which had been shrouded in secrecy, has been unveiled. It features the thinnest design in the history of the Galaxy S series at a slim thickness of 5.8mm.
Samsung Electronics unveiled the ultra-slim smartphone, Galaxy S25 Edge, at the 'Galaxy S25 Edge' Unpacked event held at the Samsung Store in Gangnam, Seoul, on the 13th. Roh Tae-Moon, acting head of Samsung Electronics' Device Experience Division (DX) and head of the Mobile eXperience Division (MX), noted, "The Galaxy S25 Edge transcends the limits of ultra-slim technology, innovating the user experience," adding that it represents "a new category in the industry that achieves a perfect balance of design and engineering craftsmanship."
◇ Ultra-slim and ultra-light design with strong durability and performance
On this day, Samsung Electronics emphasized that it has achieved strong durability despite a slim and lightweight design. Moon Seong-Hoon, vice president and head of smartphone development team 1 at Samsung Electronics' MX division, explained, "The Galaxy S25 Edge realizes a slim design with the thinnest thickness in the Galaxy S series of 163g weight through meticulous design and lightweight materials," noting that it is 55g lighter than the similarly sized Galaxy S25 Ultra (218g).
The materials used in the Galaxy S25 Edge also contributed to increased durability. The front display of the product is equipped with a new mobile glass ceramic material, 'Corning® Gorilla® Glass Ceramic 2', and has a titanium frame to enhance durability.
The Galaxy S25 Edge is powered by the same 'Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy' chipset featured in the Galaxy S25 series. This chipset was developed through collaboration between Samsung Electronics and Qualcomm, providing fast and stable performance.
◇ Thickness reduced, but designed for 'one day' usage... "Heat has also been controlled"
The battery capacity of the Galaxy S25 Edge is 3,900 milliamperes (mAh), smaller than the Galaxy S25 (4,000mAh). Vice President Moon Seong-Hoon explained, "While the battery capacity may seem small, the power consumption control time has been extended, and the power consumption of the components has been optimized to ensure 'one day' usage is not hindered."
Samsung has reduced the product's thickness but significantly strengthened the heat dissipation system. The Galaxy S25 Edge applies a redesigned vapor chamber that is thinner and wider compared to the Galaxy S25 Plus launched this January, allowing for effective heat control even during prolonged use. Vice President Moon Seong-Hoon said, "Expanding the vapor chamber to dissipate heat was the most crucial effort to secure the performance of this new product," adding, "Even though it’s a thin phone, I expect it to be usable without concerns about heat."
◇ Reduced camera count, but equipped with the same 200-megapixel camera as the 'Galaxy S25 Ultra'
The Galaxy S25 Edge is equipped with a 200-megapixel ultra-high-resolution wide-angle camera on the rear, the same as the Galaxy S25 Ultra. While the number of cameras has decreased from 5 to 3 compared to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, it features a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens for capturing wide frames in one shot, and an autofocus (AF) function for macro shooting has been added. Additionally, it has a nightography function that can capture clearer images by allowing more light through a pixel size that is approximately 40% larger than that of the Galaxy S25.
The Galaxy S25 Edge features software, 'ProVisual Engine' and 'ProScaler', which enhance clarity and detail, allowing for natural skin tone representation in portraits. According to Samsung Electronics, the display image scaling quality has improved by around 40% compared to the Galaxy S24.
The Galaxy S25 Edge supports all Galaxy AI-based editing features, including 'Audio Eraser', 'Sketch to Image', and 'Generative Edit', that were applied to the Galaxy S25. Additionally, the 'Writing Assist' feature has been enhanced, now including text summarization and translation, as well as image saving after table creation, making writing easier and faster.
The domestic release date of the Galaxy S25 Edge is set for the 23rd. It will be available in three colors: 'Titanium Silver', 'Titanium Jet Black', and 'Titanium Ice Blue'. The retail prices for the models with 256GB and 512GB storage are 1,496,000 won and 1,639,000 won, respectively.
