On the 11th, it was reported that the formation of the 'Information Protection Innovation Commission,' proposed by Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK Group, as a response to the 'SK Telecom hacking incident,' has begun. The commission, aimed at strengthening security systems across SK Group, is tasked with preventing the recurrence of incidents like the breach at SK Telecom.

According to the business community, SK Group discussed the direction of the Information Protection Innovation Commission during a strategy and global committee meeting chaired by Choi Chang-won the previous day. The Super-Excellence Council is the highest decision-making body where executives from SK's major affiliates gather to discuss management direction at the group level. The Information Protection Innovation Commission is expected to be composed of internal and external experts centered around the Super-Excellence Council.

Earlier, on the 7th, Chairman Chey held a press conference at SK Telecom's headquarters, where he apologized for the SK Telecom hacking incident. The 'Information Protection Innovation Commission' is the response measure proposed by the chairman through his public apology. He noted, 'We will inspect the entire security system across all SK affiliates and expand investments in security systems,' adding that 'we will form an Information Protection Innovation Commission that includes external experts to devise improvement measures from an objective and neutral perspective.' He further mentioned, 'Such a commission is mainly expected to be formed under the Super-Excellence Council.'

The Super-Excellence Council currently comprises eight committees, including the Strategy & Global Committee (Chairperson Choi Chang-won), Environmental Business (Jang Yong-ho), ICT (Ryu Young-sang), Talent Development (Park Sang-kyu), Communication (Lee Hyung-hee), SV (Ji Dong-seop), Governance (Jeong Jae-hun), and Semiconductors (Kwak Noh-jung). Following this incident, the new Information Protection Innovation Commission is expected to be established under the existing committees rather than as a separate committee. However, it is reported that finalizing the scale of investment in information protection will take some time, as the investigation into the cause of the incident is still ongoing.
