DeepSeek, which made a splash in the world as a "cost-effective artificial intelligence (AI)," has seen its popularity decline in the domestic market due to security concerns. Despite new downloads resuming, usage continues to drop.
According to the Mobile Index by AIGAWORKS on the 11th, the number of weekly active users (WAU) for DeepSeek was recorded at 38,882 from the 28th of last month, when new downloads resumed, to the 4th. This amounted to a market share of 0.56% in the AI institutional sector WAU rankings, placing it in 6th position. DeepSeek's weekly new installations remained at 4,600, ranking 12th.
In the WAU market share rankings, the top spot is held by ChatGPT, which recorded a share of 83.92% with 5,853,96 users. Following are Adot (9.46%·659,676 users), PurpleCity (5.10%·355,797 users), Wrtn (4.81%·335,152 users), and Microsoft Copilot (0.86%·60,174 users).
DeepSeek once caused a stir, managing to surpass ChatGPT to take the top spot in the app market, but has significantly lost momentum due to security concerns. In South Korea, after excessive personal information collection controversies in February, the Personal Information Commission entirely banned new downloads. Although downloads resumed on the 28th, usage did not see a significant rebound. New installations for DeepSeek were recorded at 622 on the first day of resumed downloads, 763 on the 29th, and 865 on the 30th.
