KCC Information Communications announced on the 9th that it has decided to invest 1 billion won in the virtual IP and content startup 'Scon.'
Scon is a virtual IP-based content company with about 30 virtual YouTubers (hereinafter referred to as 'VTubers') and has debuted the largest number of virtual characters in the country, including the VTuber group 'Meechu.' Scon recorded a revenue of 2.1 billion won last year through various revenue models such as live streaming sponsorship, merchandise sales, and advertising business based on virtual content planning and production, and aims for more than 5 billion won in revenue this year.
On the 24th, a large-scale group VTuber concert will be held featuring 16 affiliated VTubers, and a self-developed virtual IP-based idle game is also planned for release during the second quarter.
The investment funds will be used for ▲supporting the growth of existing virtual IPs ▲developing new virtual IPs ▲promoting new businesses such as games, web novels, webtoons, and AI chatbots for IP expansion ▲entering overseas markets ▲and expanding offline businesses such as concerts and fan meetings.
A representative of KCC Information Communications noted, "With the advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and the metaverse accelerating digital transformation, attention is being paid to the digital narrative-based content market that is growing around Generation Z and Generation Alpha," adding, "We decided on this investment because we highly evaluate the potential and growth possibilities of Scon, which possesses high-utilization technologies for online applications such as motion capture, virtual humans, and real-time streaming."
He also added, "This investment was made from a strategic perspective concerning the technologies and partners that can secure influence within the digital cultural ecosystem, rather than for short-term revenue."
