In the first quarter of this year, global OLED (organic light-emitting diode) monitor shipments reached an all-time high, supported by new product releases from finished goods manufacturers.

According to market research firm TrendForce on the 8th, OLED monitor shipments in the first quarter of this year amounted to approximately 507,000 units, a 175% increase compared to the same period last year. OLED monitors are primarily used in gaming, broadcasting, and film production due to their advantages such as vibrant image quality, high refresh rates, and fast response times compared to liquid crystal display (LCD).

TrendForce forecasted, 'In the upcoming second quarter, strong demand for 27-inch UHD (3840x2160) resolution models will boost shipments to 650,000 units, and the annual shipments will reach 2.58 million units, up 81% compared to last year.'

In the first quarter of this year, Samsung Electronics maintained its leading position with a market share of 22.4%. LG Electronics fell to 4th place, recording a market share of 13%, down 6 percentage points compared to the same period last year due to competition from Taiwanese companies. TrendForce noted, 'LG Electronics plans to release no models of the high-demand 27-inch UHD, so it is expected to fall behind competitors in future quarter shipments.'

Taiwanese companies expanded their market share through new sales channel expansions and a variety of OLED model releases. Taiwan's ASUS secured 21.6% market share, climbing two ranks from last year (10% market share) to settle in second place. In particular, the gap with first-place Samsung Electronics has narrowed to within 1 percentage point. Taiwan's MSI also recorded a market share increase from 7% in the first quarter of last year to 14% in the first quarter of this year, ranking third.

As major set manufacturers, including Taiwanese companies, expand their OLED monitor lineups and increase shipments, a positive effect is expected for Samsung Display and LG Display, which supply OLED panels. An industry insider stated, 'As the OLED monitor market expands, it presents an opportunity for display companies to diversify their clients.'
