LG Uplus said regarding the 'SK Telecom hacking' incident, "There were no unusual findings in the emergency inspection results." In relation to subscriber number fluctuations, it noted, "We are monitoring the situation."
Yeo Myung-hee, LG Uplus Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Risk Officer (CRO), stated during a conference call after the announcement of first-quarter results for 2025 on the 8th, "We are looking into whether the subscriber fluctuations related to competitor issues are due to bundle subscriptions or standalone subscriptions," and added, "Since it's only been a few days since the incident at SK Telecom, we will review the situation in some time and announce separately."
LG Uplus is strengthening its security following the SK Telecom breach incident. CFO Yeo stated, "We conducted an emergency inspection on the systems that store key customer data, and no unusual findings emerged," and added, "We are currently performing a comprehensive inspection across all servers in the company." She continued, "Information security is an area where it is difficult to guarantee 100% perfection, no matter how thoroughly it is managed," but noted, "Continuous checks and systematic enhancements are necessary to strengthen it constantly."
LG Uplus experienced a hacking attack in January 2023, resulting in the illegal exposure of approximately 300,000 pieces of customer information on a transaction site. Additionally, in February of the same year, there was an Internet access disruption due to a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack.
In relation to this, CFO Yeo stated, "Since experiencing past security issues, we are enhancing the fundamentals of information protection through the advancement of our security solution operating system," and added, "We are continuously pursuing the introduction of the latest security technologies and activities to strengthen customer trust." Regarding the SIM protection service, she stated, "We have been providing it for free," and mentioned, "The roaming service and the automatic subscription feature are already prepared, and guidance for customer protection is also ongoing."
For the first quarter of this year, LG Uplus reported consolidated earnings of 3.7481 trillion won in revenue and 255.4 billion won in operating profit. Compared to the same period last year, revenue increased by 4.8%, and operating profit increased by 15.6%. This year's marketing expenses amounted to 555.8 billion won, a 1.6% increase compared to the same period last year.
