LG Display announced on the 7th that Kim Byung-koo, head of the mid-sized division (executive director), has been appointed as a Fellow of the Society for Information Display (SID).

SID annually selects members from the top 0.1% with outstanding research achievements as Fellows through recommendations from past Fellows and evaluation by a Commissioner. Once appointed as a Fellow, the term is guaranteed for life.

SID noted regarding the selection of Fellows that "he commercialized the world's first tandem structure P(Plastic)-OLED for vehicle displays and contributed to the advancement of display technology by developing and distributing high-performance IT displays such as foldable and in-cell touch."

Kim Byung-koo, who has worked in the display industry for over 30 years, is recognized for pioneering the electric vehicle and premium vehicle display market with the development of vehicle P-OLED. A prime example is applying a tandem OLED structure, which consists of two organic layers, to P-OLED for vehicle displays. This product is highly durable with high brightness and long lifespan, utilizing flexible plastic substrates for enhanced design applicability.

Additionally, Executive Director Kim developed a super high-resolution LCD product that incorporates a touch sensor into the display to realize a highly sensitive in-cell touch function. Furthermore, he contributed to the commercialization of high-performance IT displays by expanding foldable technology, which was previously only applied to smartphone products, to displays larger than 13 inches for the first time in the world.
