The telecommunications authorities and SK Telecom have launched an all-out response to address concerns that the confusion caused by the SIM card swaps at airports could peak this weekend as the holiday begins.
The Ministry of Science and ICT noted early on the 3rd that overseas departure demand is expected to reach its peak and decided to operate a fast track for users who are nearing departure.
SK Telecom is expanding personnel and booths to support SIM card swaps at airport roaming centers and is providing faster SIM card swaps for customers whose boarding times are approaching.
The authorities reported that there have been no issues with the supply and replacement of SIM cards at the airport as of the morning of the 2nd. Additionally, SK Telecom is planning for executives, including Ryu Young-sang, to monitor the SIM card swap situation at the airport this weekend.
SK Telecom has been reported to share a policy among executives that they will not schedule personal commitments, such as weekend golf, following the hacking incident.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Science and ICT plans to carry out intensive security checks on the three major telecommunications corporations as well as major platform corporations, including Naver and Kakao.
