On the 2nd, the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) announced that it will strengthen on-site inspections to prevent excessive promotions in mobile phone stores during the holiday period.
The KCC plans to inspect excessive promotional activities that may occur in mobile phone stores and will impose strict measures such as penalty surcharges and fines if violations are detected. KCC Chairperson Lee Jin-sook noted, 'We will thoroughly monitor excessive promotions at mobile phone distribution points during the holiday period and respond strictly to illegal activities.'
Additionally, the KCC has requested telecommunications companies to strengthen spam filtering in preparation for the surge in spam texts and smishing. A public-private consultative body to address illegal spam to prevent smishing will be formed as needed, and cooperation between telecommunications companies and corporations is expected to strengthen further.
The KCC will provide information on how to change SIM cards and join SIM protection services, as well as tips for dealing with spam texts, and plans to continuously strengthen market monitoring activities. The KCC will also conduct special inspections on the identity verification system. To protect users from security vulnerabilities such as hacking incidents, it is scheduled to check the safety of all related systems, including SK Telecom's identity verification system, from the 3rd to the 8th.
