Naver announced on the 30th that it has established a special page containing relevant information ahead of the 21st presidential election. The company also disclosed the operating standards for candidate information-related services.
The 21st presidential election will be held on June 3. To coincide with this, Naver has launched a 'special page for the 21st presidential election,' which consists of ▲ 'Media Pick' where major election articles are provided, selected directly by each media outlet, ▲ 'Polls' where reports, analyses, and special articles from media outlets regarding opinion polls are gathered, and ▲ 'Special Live' which provides live broadcasts of special programming from broadcasting stations and exit poll results on election day. The company stated, 'We will make every effort to deliver quick and accurate information and to employ technical and policy measures to prevent macro activities and fraudulent practices.'
Naver News has been operating a 'Media-Specific Comment Selection System' since October 2018, allowing each media outlet to choose how to provide comments. This will continue to be in operation during the election period. The order and availability of comments for news in the election section will be provided according to the policies of each media outlet. Only verified accounts can post up to 20 comments within 24 hours.
In addition, Naver will expand the number of dedicated personnel for intensive monitoring of news comments to establish a 24-hour response system. A hotline will be set up for departments to minimize the possibility of macro activities and fraudulent practices. Requests for deletion of comments related to candidates during the election period will be processed in accordance with the policies of the Korea Internet Self-Governance Organization (KISO) and will be determined based on the judgment of the National Election Commission.
Since the 29th, Naver has been indicating a notice on articles when a specific comment receives a significant increase in likes or dislikes above set standards. A technology has also been applied to notify media outlets of this information. This function has been introduced to prevent heated conflicts or confrontations in comment writing and participation.
When the candidate registration for presidential candidates closes on May 11, the National Election Commission will provide candidate information such as name, photo, date of birth, occupation, and education. Additionally, the automatic completion and keyword suggestion function for candidate names will be restricted. This measure has also been applied in the 2022 20th presidential election and the 2024 22nd National Assembly election. During the election period, even if a user's inputted keyword is presumed to be a typo, candidate names will not be exposed as suggested keywords.
