The National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information, Broadcasting, and Communication Committee has decided to hold a special hearing on the SK Telecom SIM card (USIM) hacking incident on May 8.

During the 'YTN privatization and broadcasting and communication hearing' held on April 30, the committee dealt with the hacking incident involving SK Telecom and introduced a motion to adopt the plan for conducting the SK Telecom hacking-related hearing, which was approved. Chairperson Choi Min-hee noted, 'We will hold the SK Telecom hearing at 2 p.m. on May 8.'

The committee has demanded the presence of Chey Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group, at the SK Telecom hacking incident hearing scheduled for next month. In response to requests from committee members to waive number portability penalties as a follow-up to this hacking incident, SK Telecom has only provided a response indicating they would consider it, prompting Chairman Chey to request his direct attendance at the hearing.

Chairperson Choi stated, 'All members from the first and second parties are requesting a waiver of the number portability penalty, but SK Telecom is dragging its feet while repeatedly responding that it will consider it,' adding, 'This is because they are not the decision-makers, so please ensure that Chairman Chey’s attendance at the special hearing is secured.'
