On the first day of the SIM card replacement service on the 28th, SK Telecom confirmed that 230,000 people completed the SIM card replacement. This accounts for 1% of the total SK Telecom subscribers (23 million).
According to SK Telecom, as of 6 p.m. that day, the number of users who completed the SIM card replacement was counted at 230,000.
Earlier, on the 18th, SK Telecom confirmed that some information related to users' SIM cards was leaked due to malicious code by hackers.
In response, SK Telecom noted that it would implement the SIM protection service. The SIM protection service is designed to prevent damage from illegal SIM duplication. Even if hackers steal and replicate SIM information, it effectively blocks access to communication services under that name from other devices.
However, as concerns among users persisted, SK Telecom began the free SIM card replacement service that day. The 2.63 million users who had not been able to replace their SIM cards made appointments for the replacement online.
As a result, it is anticipated that it will take several months for all users wishing to replace their SIM cards to complete the process. The number of SK Telecom subscribers reaches 23 million. Adding to this, the number of budget phone subscribers (1.87 million) using this company's network brings the total to about 25 million.
SK Telecom said, "We will do our best to alleviate customer concerns and resolve this incident quickly."
