SK Telecom announced on the 24th that it will implement various additional support measures to make it easier for customers to use the "SIM protection service." This measure was prepared to alleviate customers' security concerns and to allow for easier and more convenient access to the SIM protection service.

First, SK Telecom has simplified the enrollment process for the "SIM protection service," which can be registered for free on T World. When customers register for the SIM protection service, roaming usage is restricted to prevent unauthorized overseas use, which previously entailed several inconvenient steps.

However, starting April 24th, the enrollment process has been improved so that customers can register for the SIM protection service simply by canceling their roaming plan. After canceling the roaming plan, the settings on the T World app and website have been changed to allow immediate access to the SIM protection service registration screen with one touch.

In addition, the operating hours of the 114 customer center have been extended from the existing 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., supporting guidance related to the SIM protection service. The newly established Cyber Incident Response Center (080-800-0577) operates 24 hours a day, enabling customers to connect with consultants for necessary inquiries at any time.

For digitally vulnerable customers, in addition to sending text messages, the 114 customer center will directly call to explain how to register for the SIM protection service. If the customer agrees, they will also assist with the actual registration. This measure is aimed at customers who struggle with smartphone app usage, with the expectation of preventing damages.

Additionally, SK Telecom will provide easy guidance for enrolling in the SIM protection service through over 2,600 stores nationwide. To ensure broader customer protection, the SIM protection service will also be expanded to budget smartphone customers using the SK Telecom network.

This service will be offered to all budget smartphone customers (14 companies) using the SK Telecom network starting from the 24th, and registration can be done through the customer centers of each budget phone operator. Each budget phone company is expected to collaborate to sequentially provide registration via their websites.

Budget phone operators include SK Telink, Unicomz, PreTelecom, EYESVISION, Smatel, Big Person, Korea Cable Telecom, S-1, Stage Five, Toss Mobile, KB Kookmin Bank, LG HelloVision, Sejong Telecom, and Joytel.

Meanwhile, the SIM protection service saw 1.01 million new registrations in a single day on the 23rd, with a total of 1.61 million cumulative registrants as of 8 a.m. on the 24th.
