The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency announced on the 24th that they will operate a comprehensive situation room in response to the end of technical support for Microsoft (MS) Windows 10 on the 23rd.
Technical support for Windows 10 will end on Oct. 14, and since there will be no security patches afterward, updating to Windows 11 is recommended.
The comprehensive situation room will check for potential cyber threats that may arise after the end of technical support and will carry out activities to prevent damage spread, including distributing dedicated vaccines in the event of new malware emergence.
Choi Woo-hyuk, director of the Information Protection Network Policy Division, noted, “There is a great concern about zero-day attacks that exploit security vulnerabilities due to the end of technical support for Windows 10,” and said, “The government will work to minimize damage to individuals and corporations.”
