SK Telecom announced on the 23rd that it will sequentially send service subscription recommendation text messages (MMS) to all customers to actively promote the 'SIM Protection Service.'
The SIM Protection Service is designed to block others from replicating or stealing a customer's SIM information to access communication services on different devices. When subscribing, customers can protect their SIM information without any additional measures.
To actively promote the 'SIM Protection Service,' SK Telecom plans to sequentially send service subscription recommendation text messages (MMS) to all customers starting today.
SK Telecom explained, "So far, there have been no confirmed cases of leaked information being exploited; however, this is to support customers who wish to block illegal SIM device changes and abnormal authentication attempts so they can use the service with peace of mind."
Previously, on the 19th, SK Telecom discovered signs that SIM-related information was leaked due to malicious code from hackers and reported it to the authorities. SK Telecom and related government agencies are investigating the exact cause, scale, and items of the information leak.
