SK Telecom is reported to be reviewing the sale of its Pangyo office building as of the 22nd. The background for the sale is said to be securing investment funds to establish growth drivers such as artificial intelligence (AI).

According to the telecommunications industry, SK Telecom is in the process of selling the SK Planet Pangyo office building located on Pangyo-ro. The company acquired a 59.8% equity stake in this building from SK Planet for about 779 million won in 2019. The intention is to raise funds needed to expand its business into areas beyond telecommunications, such as AI data centers and AI assistant services.

In response, the SK Telecom labor union is in the position of demanding the immediate withdrawal of the sale. The SK Telecom union chairman stated in an email to members, "The company's financial statements are not in bad shape, yet they are trying to sell a perfectly good office building," and asked, "Does it make sense to rent the building back and bring the rent into group revenue?" There was an attempt to sell the T Tower in Jung-gu, Seoul, in 2021, but the union blocked this and demanded that the company immediately withdraw the process of selling the Pangyo office building.

In this regard, an SK Telecom official said, "We are reviewing various measures to secure resources for future growth investments and to address global economic uncertainties, but nothing has been decided."
