Naver will provide the ‘Ubiquitous-based test’ (UBT) evaluation system utilizing smart devices to the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education.

Naver officially launched the online digital evaluation service ‘Whale UBT’ on the 21st. Whale UBT has been integrated as the basic digital evaluation service within the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education’s teaching and learning platform ‘Gwangju ION’.

Recognized as a platform optimized for public education evaluation, Whale UBT was unveiled in October. It offers ▲a comprehensive management system for performance assessments ▲question creation functionality ▲stable provision of high-quality items ▲metadata standardization ▲an artificial intelligence (AI) proctor evaluation solution, among others.

Whale UBT, integrated into Gwangju ION, provides approximately 400,000 questions from four publishers, including EBS, Cheonjae Education, Jihaksa, and Solbook. Metadata reflecting the revised curriculum from 2015 and 2022 has also been standardized and incorporated. The performance assessment functions will be gradually added. Naver has newly developed the mobile exam mode function of the Whale browser so that Whale UBT can be used on tablet devices based on the Android operating system, which are currently being used in elementary schools under the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education.

Naver noted the effects of introducing Whale UBT, stating, "In the educational field, various public education evaluations such as diagnostic assessments, formative assessments, unit assessments, and performance assessments can be managed integratively within one system," adding, "Teachers can create questions directly or use evaluation items constructed at the education office level, and they can also utilize a customized creation tool to design various formats of performance assessments themselves."

Naver plans to standardize metadata based on achievement standards of elementary, middle, and high school curricula and to continuously expand high-quality items through collaboration with various publishers. Additionally, the AI proctor evaluation solution has various features to prevent cheating by candidates. Whale UBT also supports a custom-made method that offers a selection of desired functions at the education office level along with its basic features.

Kim Hyo, Naver Whale leader, stated, "We have introduced Whale UBT, an all-in-one evaluation service, to be used efficiently in public education in line with the trend of shifting the paradigm of learning to personalized learning and process-oriented evaluation," and added, "We will continue to reflect feedback from the education field and secure more evaluation items to evolve into a service optimized for evaluation."
