#LG Display researcher Kim's daily work
At 8:30 a.m., upon arriving at work, I receive a report from the artificial intelligence (AI) assistant about missed emails and today's schedule. At 11 a.m., during a video meeting with overseas corporations, I comfortably communicate with the help of AI through automatic simultaneous interpretation, and immediately after the meeting, I check follow-up items through the meeting minutes automatically prepared by AI.
At 2 p.m., to write a work report, I search relevant papers from the corporate AI agent 'ChatExAwon' at the LG AI Research Institute and request a draft report in PPT format from the AI assistant. At 3 p.m., I handle tasks using the AI assistant service, allowing me to focus more on research for new technology development during the time saved from manual work.
LG Display announced on the 21st that it is developing and applying an AI assistant service to improve individual productivity. It is the first instance in the industry where a corporation has developed and implemented an AI assistant using its own technology.
The AI assistant service automates repetitive tasks for LG Display employees and simplifies complex tasks. It supports 'automatic translation for video conferences' and 'automatic meeting minutes writing,' enabling more efficient work.
LG Display plans to continuously upgrade the performance of the AI assistant service. In the first half of the year, it will add 'email AI summarization' and 'data processing functions' such as natural language-based index analysis. In the second half, it will expand to more advanced AI tasks, including a 'document writing assistant function' that drafts PPTs for reporting.
The AI assistant service improves daily work productivity by about 10% compared to previous levels. This allows for efficient management of about 50 minutes out of an 8-hour standard working day. Employees can now concentrate on high-value tasks during the time saved, enhancing work efficiency and productivity. LG Display plans to increase work productivity by more than 30% within three years by maximizing the utilization of the AI assistant service.
The AI assistant service is built as a plugin that adds AI applications to the existing in-house intranet 'Let’s.' Employees can use the AI assistant service in their usual work environment by leveraging the existing infrastructure.
LG Display stated that by developing the AI assistant service in-house, it has also saved over 10 billion won in expenses that would have been incurred by subscribing to external AI assistant services with similar functions.
Additionally, LG Display has internalized the LLM (large language model) that serves as the brain for the AI assistant service, blocking any potential leakage of external information and enhancing security stability.
The LLM utilizes 'ExAwon 3.5,' developed by the LG AI Research Institute. The 'ExAwon 3.5 ultra-light model' is recognized for its outstanding performance compared to competing LLMs, having ranked first in the edge category of the leaderboards of the world's largest AI platform, 'Hugging Face.' The AI assistant service utilizing 'ExAwon 3.5' demonstrates optimized performance in tasks such as summarization, translation, search, and generation. Furthermore, the development of plugin AI apps incorporated into the AI assistant service was done in collaboration with LG CNS.
Meanwhile, LG Display was selected as a target company for digital transformation in the 'business restructuring enterprises' approved by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in March. LG Display aims to enhance OLED productivity through the advancement of automation systems and the establishment of intelligent systems.
Lee Byung-seung, head of the LG Display DX Group (executive director), noted that by maximizing individual work productivity with the introduction of personal AI assistants, simple tasks can be reduced, and productivity can be increased. He added, 'We will strengthen our AX (AI transformation) capabilities to focus on creating differentiated customer value.'
