The decision on whether to support the transaction of WEMIX, a cryptocurrency facing a second delisting due to hacking damage, has been extended again.
Bithumb, part of the Digital Asset Exchange Alliance (DAXA), announced on the 18th that it will extend the designation of WEMIX as a cautionary transaction item. DAXA is a cooperative body among five domestic cryptocurrency exchanges: GoPax, Bithumb, Upbit, Korbit, and Coinone. This decision applies to all platforms where WEMIX is currently listed, including Bithumb, Coinone, Korbit, and GoPax.
DAXA noted, "We are receiving clarification from the project side regarding the facts related to the designation of cautionary transaction items and subsequent measures, and we are conducting additional review procedures on this matter," and added, "To conduct a more thorough review, we will extend the designation of cautionary transaction items," stating that it will announce the extension, removal, or delisting of cautionary transaction items during the first week of May (April 28 to May 2).
This is the second extension of the cautionary transaction item designation by DAXA. Just two weeks after the designation of cautionary transaction items for WEMIX, DAXA extended the designation on the 18th of last month.
WEMIX is a cryptocurrency issued by Korean game company Wemade, related to blockchain games. The blockchain subsidiary of Wemade, the WEMIX Foundation, announced through its website on the 4th of last month, "Approximately 8,654,860 WEMIX coins were withdrawn abnormally due to a malicious external attack on the Play Bridge Vault on February 28."
Play Bridge is a system for transferring WEMIX to another blockchain network, and the Play Bridge Vault is a wallet that holds virtual assets during this process. The amount corresponds to approximately 9 billion won based on the market price of WEMIX at the time.
DAXA designated WEMIX as a cautionary transaction item, stating that the announcement regarding such matters was "disingenuous in its disclosure of important issues that could significantly affect users' reasonable investment decisions or the value of virtual assets, and there is a lack of clear clarification regarding the cause of the incident and compensation measures for victims."
Previously, WEMIX was delisted from domestic exchanges by DAXA in December 2022 due to issues with the disclosure of circulation. After being expelled from domestic exchanges once, WEMIX was relisted on Coinone in February of the following year, and subsequently relisted on GoPax, Korbit, and Bithumb, where it has been traded until now.
