On the 17th, Riot Games announced that it unveiled the results of the reproduction of the Joseon royal cultural heritage 'calligraphy' at the National Palace Museum in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
This reproduction project has been underway since 2023 based on a cultural heritage sponsorship agreement signed with the Korea Heritage Service in 2022. Riot Games sponsored the reproduction of three cultural heritage items: the folding screen of books and flowers, the folding screen depicting rituals at Jongmyo Shrine, and the six volumes of the seal collected at the Hall of Precious Virtue, among nine total pieces.
The folding screen of books and flowers is a ten-panel screen symbolizing the scholarship and learning of the Joseon royal family, while the folding screen depicting rituals at Jongmyo Shrine is an eight-panel screen explaining the ceremonial procedures and buildings from the Gojong era. The six volumes of the seal called Baosodang, belonging to Heonjong, the 24th king of Joseon, represent the royal family's literary interests.
The Korea Heritage Service conducted the reproduction using literary research and digital technology, and the completed replicas will be used in future exhibitions at the National Palace Museum.
Riot Games has been engaged in activities to protect Korean cultural heritage since 2012. The company has supported the return of cultural heritage abroad, such as the Buddha Triad and the signboard of Seonwonjeon at Gyeongbokgung Palace, as well as the preservation of the Korean Empire's legation and the conservation of Joseon royal artifacts.
Cho Hyuk-jin, the country representative of Riot Games, said, 'It is significant that we can preserve cultural heritage, which inevitably wears away over time, in the form of reproduction and pass it on to future generations.' He added, 'We will continue to work hard with players to ensure that our precious cultural heritage is sustained.'
