U.S. semiconductor equipment manufacturers are expected to bear an annual expense of over $1 billion (approximately 1.43 trillion won) due to the imposition of high tariffs.
미국의 고율 관세 부과로 미국 반도체 장비 제조업체들이 연간 10억달러(약 1조4300억원) 이상의 비용 부담을 떠안게 될 것으로 집계됐다.
Reuters reported on the 15th (local time) that "executives from the three major U.S. semiconductor equipment manufacturers, Applied Materials, Lam Research, and KLA, discussed the burden issue caused by tariffs with U.S. government officials last week," and it was estimated that large corporations would incur an additional expense of $35 million (approximately 5 billion won) each annually.
The additional expense was found to arise from lost sales due to the inability to sell in overseas markets such as China and from the process of replacing manufacturing equipment parts.
U.S. lawmakers and government officials reportedly discussed these issues with semiconductor industry executives and representatives from the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) to understand the impact of tariff policy.
It is estimated that billions of dollars in sales losses have been incurred, as the previous administration led by Joe Biden also implemented regulations on exports of advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment to China.
The Trump administration suspended reciprocal tariffs on various countries except for China, but on the 14th, it announced the initiation of an investigation to assess the impact of imports of semiconductors, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, and derivative products on national security.
