LG Electronics recently held an appointment ceremony for research and specialist commissioners at the LG Science Park in Magok, Gangseo District, Seoul, and on the 10th, it announced that it presented appointment plaques to 20 new research and specialist commissioners.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jo Joo-wan, along with Vice President and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Kim Byung-hoon and Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer (CHO) Kim Won-beom, attended to congratulate them.
The research and specialist commissioners are a program operated by LG Electronics to present career visions for becoming the top experts within the company in various fields, including research and development (R&D), software (SW), production, quality, and design, and to nurture key talent. Those selected are provided with independent work environments and separate treatment to immerse themselves in their respective areas of expertise.
CEO Jo passed the appointment plaque to the new research and specialist commissioners, congratulating them by saying, "The research and specialist commissioners have been officially recognized as top experts in their fields at LG Electronics with their knowledge and capabilities."
Of the 15 new research commissioners this year, nearly half, or 7, were selected from the fields of AI and software.
Min Kyung-jik (37), a principal researcher working in the CTO division's SW Center, was selected as the youngest research commissioner in history. Commissioner Min was recognized for leading various research and development projects on software platforms, including webOS TV, robots, and vehicular infotainment. Commissioner Min also received the 'LG Awards,' which honors members of the LG Group who have created differentiated customer value last year.
This year, a total of 5 specialist commissioners were selected, recognized as the top experts in general administrative positions outside of research and development. Talented individuals with expertise in fields such as production technology, product planning, legal affairs, and finance were selected. LG Electronics selects specialists regardless of the field, as long as individuals have proven their capabilities and achievements.
Since 2009, LG Electronics has selected research and specialist commissioners each year, considering strategic importance in terms of job expertise, performance, and capabilities. The research and development group is select as research commissioners, taking on roles to prepare for the future and secure technological competitiveness, while specialists in other professional fields are designated as specialist commissioners to lead company-wide tasks.
Only a small number of individuals, corresponding to about 1% of all positions, are selected as research and specialist commissioners through a strict process that includes candidate recommendations, in-depth reviews of expertise and capabilities, and a selection committee led by top executives. Including the newly selected individuals this year, a total of 236 people are working as research and specialist commissioners at LG Electronics.
