On the 7th, Smilegate announced the release date and new trailer for the reactive turn-based RPG "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33," developed by the French studio Sandfall Interactive.
"Clair Obscur: Expedition 33" is a turn-based RPG in the style of a JRPG set against a Belle Époque backdrop, depicting the struggle against "Paintless," where individuals of a certain age vanish into smoke, with the number decreasing by one each year. This installment focuses on the final expedition of 32-year-old protagonists who are living on borrowed time due to the reduced number from 34 to 33.
Created using Unreal Engine 5, this work features a vintage art style characterized by high contrast and a profound story. It includes Hollywood actors such as Andy Serkis, known for his role as Gollum in "The Lord of the Rings," and Charlie Cox as voice actors. The combat is based on a reactive turn-based system, allowing real-time evasion and parrying during the enemy's turn, providing highly immersive battles, according to the company’s explanation.
"Expedition 33" will be globally launched simultaneously on the 24th. Ahead of the release, a new trailer featuring the playable character "Sciel" has also been unveiled. Following previously published characters Gustav, Mael, and Rune, additional character trailers will be released sequentially.
