KT announced on the 6th that it will expand the distribution of ‘Genie TV Original’ content, which was exclusively available on its IPTV platform Genie TV, to various OTT platforms, completely overhauling its distribution strategy.

KT explained that this reorganization aims to promote a distribution strategy focused on simultaneous releases on OTT platforms, strengthening the KT brand, and expanding global content.

First, as part of its OTT opening strategy, it will provide Genie TV Original content to a wider audience. The drama Mother and Mom, starring Jeon Hye-jin and Jo Min-soo, was simultaneously released on Tving and Genie TV last March, and New Recruit, which will be released on April 7th, will also be available on both platforms at the same time.

In terms of brand enhancement strategy, KT aims to increase recognition of its original brand based on the successes of well-made content such as Your Honor, Nam Nam, and House with a Yard. To achieve this, marketing activities will be conducted alongside efforts like a Gwanghwamun pop-up store, baseball stadium events, and YouTube video releases.

The global expansion strategy will also be ramped up. KT plans to simultaneously release Your Taste, scheduled to air in May, on Netflix and will expand cooperation with overseas OTTs in the future.

Shin Jong-soo, head of KT's media strategy division, noted, “We have reorganized the distribution strategy so that more viewers can experience KT's original content,” and added, “We will strengthen content competitiveness by collaborating with domestic and international OTTs.”
