Meta is expected to launch high-end smart glasses with built-in screens controllable by hand gestures later this year, with a price estimated to be over $1,000.

According to a Bloomberg report on the 1st (local time), Meta is developing a new smart glass under the code name 'Hypernova', and the product will feature a screen that can control apps and photos through gestures. This screen will be located at the bottom corner of the right lens, displaying information in front of the user's right eye, with the clearest view when looking down.

The expected price of the smart glasses ranges from $1,300 to $1,400, significantly higher than Meta's existing RAY smart glasses, which start at $299. While the existing product offered simple AI features such as photo and video capture, calls, and music playback, the new product will include finger gesture recognition and video display capabilities similar to Apple's MR headset 'Vision Pro'.

These high-end smart glasses are separate from the augmented reality (AR) prototype 'Oryan' that Meta introduced last year. With the accompanying 'neural wristband', users can perform various operations such as scrolling through photos or apps.

Meta has also begun development on a follow-up model, 'Hypernova 2', aiming for a release in 2027. The successor is expected to be equipped with screens in both lenses.

Bloomberg noted that this high-end smart glass represents "an important step in Meta's realization of a true augmented reality (AR) glasses vision" and could become a key product that may eventually replace the iPhone or other mobile devices.
