Kim Dong-hyun, the director of the mobile massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) 'Wind's Territory: Yeon,' jointly developed by Nexon and Supercat, has left Supercat. The successor has not yet been decided and is reportedly being sought.
According to the gaming industry on the 1st, Director Kim resigned from Supercat the previous day. He said on his personal social networking service (SNS), "I have left Supercat after three and a half years together, and my time as the director of Wind's Territory: Yeon was not easy, but it was a time when I learned a lot and grew deeply." He added, "Creating and leading something has always been a continuous worry, and though it wasn't smooth, I was able to endure until the end because I had good colleagues with me."
Director Kim also expressed his regret to the users of Wind's Territory: Yeon. He mentioned, "I think it will stay in my heart for a long time that I could not leave a final farewell to the users who have been with us for a long time." The specific reason for Director Kim's resignation has not been disclosed, and Supercat is currently in the process of finding a successor. There are also reports that external recruitment is a possibility. Previously, it was reported that Director Kim Hoon, who was in charge of art at Supercat, also left the company.
'Wind's Territory: Yeon' is a game utilizing Nexon's intellectual property (IP) of 'Wind's Territory' and has been in service since July 15, 2020. Developed by Supercat and operated by Nexon, the game had a showcase that was abruptly canceled at the end of last month. At that time, the development team explained through a notice, "We aimed to prepare the showcase well and visit the users with suitable content, but due to internal circumstances within the development team, we had no choice but to cancel the showcase."
Meanwhile, both Nexon and Supercat have drawn the line saying there is no truth to the possibility of service termination.
