Kakao will reduce the conversion criteria for dormant accounts from the previous 1 year to 3 months. Kakao has maintained a 1-year transition period for dormant accounts for both Kakao and Daum email accounts.
According to Kakao on the 31st, if there is no login record for 3 months starting from April 2, the account will be converted to a dormant account. Existing emails will still be stored, but newly received emails will be returned. Kakao noted that this is a measure to protect unused IDs and reduce unnecessary advertising emails.
Until now, Kakao guaranteed a particularly long transition period of 1 year for dormant accounts, unlike other email services, in order to unify Kakao accounts and policies.
Naver changes accounts to dormant if there is no login to Naver Mail for more than 3 months, blocking email reception. If there is no login for 3 years thereafter, stored emails will be deleted. Google's Gmail also has a 3-month conversion period for dormant accounts. Depending on the settings, if 3 months pass after the dormant state, automatic withdrawal is initiated.
Daum also announced that it will officially launch its comment service "Time Talk" on this day. The Time Talk service will also apply to sports news. It has been 4 years and 7 months since the comment service was applied to Daum sports news since August 2020.
Time Talk, which began as a beta service in June 2023, is a chat-style comment feature that enables real-time communication.
Kakao stated that it improved its platform to resolve issues with some comments being highlighted or inappropriate comments not disappearing through automation tools that block comments violating operating policies during the beta period, such as the 'Safe Bot' and abuse prevention systems.
This official service maximized usability by adding features preferred by users, such as diversifying replies to comments and sorting methods.
