Rainbow Robotics has appointed Kim Yong-wan, a former chief financial officer of Samsung Electronics, as an inside director.
According to the Financial Supervisory Service electronic disclosure system on the 31st, Rainbow Robotics held its 14th annual general meeting of shareholders at Daejeon Techno Park in Yuseong-gu that morning, approving Kim's appointment as an inside director. The term is three years.
CFO Kim was born in 1973 and earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Maryland in 2008. He then served in the overseas support team of Samsung Electronics' MX (Mobile Experience) division and managed the Colombian sales corporation. From December of last year until this month, he worked in the management support institutional sector at the Suwon support center.
Samsung Electronics has participated in management through its board of directors for three consecutive years, including this inside director. Previously, Rainbow Robotics appointed Yoon Jun-o, a vice president of Samsung Electronics, as a non-executive director at the 2023 regular shareholders' meeting, and hired Jang Se-myeong, vice president of Samsung Electronics' planning team, as Yoon's successor at last year's shareholders' meeting.
On December 31 of last year, Samsung Electronics increased its existing equity stake in the robotics specialist Rainbow Robotics from 14.7% to 35.0%, securing a majority shareholder position and incorporating it as a subsidiary.
In this regard, a future robotics promotion team directly under the chief executive officer has been established to begin development of future robots, including humanoids. The head of the future robotics promotion team is Oh Jun-ho, an honorary professor at KAIST and a founding member of Rainbow Robotics, who created 'HUBO,' Korea's first bipedal humanoid robot.
