LG Uplus announced on the 12th that it presented the direction of 6G network development and key vision at the '3GPP 6G Workshop' held from the 10th to the 11th at the PARADISE Hotel in Incheon.
The 3GPP 6G Workshop is an event hosted by the global mobile communication standards organization 3GPP, where mobile carriers, network equipment manufacturers, academia, and research institutions from around the world gather to substantively discuss the standardization of 6G technology. It is a core event where all members of the mobile communication ecosystem share their unique visions and directions during the standard-setting process.
This workshop was jointly held by the standardization promotion organizations within 3GPP, including the TSG SA (Services and Systems), RAN (Radio Access Network), and CT (Core Network and Terminals) groups, and discussed 6G services and use cases, 6G network architecture, 6G radio access technologies, and the key frequency bands for 6G.
At this event, LG Uplus presented 'Bring Differentiated Values with Customers' as its slogan and proposed its vision for the future commercialization of 6G as S.I.X. (Sustainability, Intelligence, eXpansion). Under 'Sustainability', the emphasis was on a green network for carbon neutrality, disaster response using satellites, and strategies for enhanced security. In 'Intelligence', network optimization and AI service support were discussed, while 'eXpansion' focused on enhancing user experiences and expanding satellite-based services.
It also outlined directions for the evolution of the 6G system structure, including AI-based networks, enhanced security, and expansion of network portfolios. The system design considerations for supporting AI agent services and introducing post-quantum cryptography (PQC) were also important points of discussion. LG Uplus emphasized that the evolution of 6G should lead beyond mere technological advancement to revenue generation and service-centered standardization.
LG Uplus has been leading trends ahead of 6G commercialization by publishing the '6G White Paper' and plans to present a concrete blueprint for preparing for the 6G era at this event. Additionally, it aims to expand cooperation with global telecommunications companies and equipment manufacturers to discuss the development of core 6G technologies and commercialization strategies.
Meanwhile, this year's 3GPP 6G Workshop was held at the PARADISE Hotel in Incheon, hosted by the Korea Information & Communication Association (TTA), alongside the 3GPP General Assembly. The assembly is scheduled to continue until the 14th.
Lee Sang-yeob, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of LG Uplus, noted, 'The future commercialized 6G network will provide new dimensions of consolidation with AI and satellites,' and added, 'LG Uplus will cooperate with global technology leaders to lead the 6G standardization discussions and drive innovation in the next-generation mobile communications.'
