With the growth of the artificial intelligence (AI) market and increased supply of high-bandwidth memory (HBM), a high-value memory semiconductor, SK hynix has confirmed that it recorded sales growth in the United States.
According to a disclosure made by SK hynix on the 4th, its U.S. sales subsidiary, 'SK hynix America,' recorded sales of 33.4859 trillion won and a net profit of 1.049 billion won last year. This figure represents an increase of approximately 2.6 times compared to the previous year's sales of 12.5419 trillion won.
The analysis indicates that sales significantly increased due to the expanding demand for AI memory driven by big tech, including HBM, solid state drives (SSD), and DDR5. SK hynix has already completed its sales of HBM for this year. This year, the company plans to increase supply of the 5th generation HBM, 'HBM3E 12-layer' products, while also ramping up supply of the HBM3E 16-layer in the first half and 'custom' 6th generation HBM4 products in the second half.
Sales generated in the United States, including the U.S. sales subsidiary, account for more than half of SK hynix's overall sales. Last year, as of the third quarter (cumulative), the United States constituted 58% (27.3058 trillion won) of the total sales from domestic and foreign regions, which amounted to 46.4259 trillion won.
SK hynix recorded its largest-ever sales of 66.193 trillion won and an operating profit of 23.4673 trillion won last year. Notably, in the fourth quarter of last year, HBM accounted for more than 40% of total DRAM sales.
