The Korea Information & Communication Technology Association (TTA) released a research report on the 'General-Purpose Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Risk Management Framework' through its AI Reliability Center on the 10th. The report systematically identifies and analyzes the potential risks of General-Purpose AI (GPAI) technology and presents an international standard-based risk management framework to effectively manage these risks.

Since 2021, TTA has been working with the Ministry of Science and ICT and related agencies to enhance and disseminate awareness of AI reliability. This research was initiated to provide a foundational direction to support the safe and sustainable development of General-Purpose AI, considering the potential social and ethical impacts of rapidly advancing GPAI technology.

The report analyzes risk factors derived from previous studies and defines eight key risk factors specifically related to GPAI. This enables stakeholders related to GPAI technology to better identify risks and prepare systematically.

It also designed a risk management framework that reflects the specificity of GPAI technology by referencing international standards. The framework's effectiveness was verified through case studies and guides that can be utilized by related organizations. The AI risk management framework presented in this report has been refined through reviews by a research advisory committee composed of 20 domestic experts from academia, industry, and research, to practically assist domestic AI operators in providing safe and reliable AI services.

Furthermore, the project secured international credibility through consultations with renowned scholars in the AI field, including Yoshua Bengio, a professor at the University of Montreal in Canada, and Stuart Russell, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley.

Son Seung-hyun, chairman of TTA, noted, "Following the recent unveiling of China's DeepSeek, safety issues regarding privacy protection, copyright, and national security have surfaced, increasing awareness of AI risks," and added, "I hope this research report will serve as an important reference for corporations developing AI models and services to safely manage artificial intelligence."
