Asahi Shimbun and others reported on the 5th that Japan's Panasonic Holdings is considering withdrawing from its TV business.

On the previous day, Yukihiro Kusumi, president of Panasonic Holdings, indicated during an online press conference that he has identified four businesses, including TVs and industrial equipment, as having poor profitability, stating that they generate little revenue and show no growth potential, and that he intends to withdraw from or scale down these operations.

Chairman Kusumi noted that if business performance does not improve by March 2027, they will consider measures including withdrawal from the business and sales. He said regarding the TV business, "Currently, there are no corporations willing to engage in sales," and added, "I am considering various means."

In addition, Panasonic Holdings plans to dismantle 'Panasonic,' a company overseeing white goods, air conditioning, and lighting sectors, before March of next year, as part of a corporate restructuring. Panasonic Holdings plans to organize its TV business and focus on areas evaluated as relatively competitive in the market, such as aircraft entertainment and communication systems and electric vehicle batteries.

Previously, other Japanese corporations, including Toshiba, Hitachi Ltd., and Mitsubishi Electric, also sold their TV businesses or ceased TV production. It is reported that the market share of Chinese companies in Japan's TV market is around 50%.
