Go Hak-soo, Chairperson of the Personal Information Protection Commission, said on the 3rd, “We will proactively respond to personal information issues to create policy outcomes that the public can feel.”

On the same day, Chairperson Go emphasized in a New Year’s address that “we must open avenues for utilizing personal information in the development of essential artificial intelligence (AI) and systematically prepare the ‘AI-Data 2.0 policy.’”

He promised, “Starting with the healthcare and telecommunications sectors, which are closely related to daily life, we will launch five leading services that will serve as a catalyst for the establishment of the ‘MyData system’ and actively discover services that can be experienced.”

MyData is a service that allows individuals to request corporations or institutions holding their personal information to transfer that information to other places as desired.

Regarding the recent increase in personal information leaks or breaches, he noted, “We must investigate and impose sanctions strictly to maintain the credibility of law enforcement,” and urged, “Please proactively identify and inspect vulnerable areas of personal information protection closely related to daily life.”

In September, the 47th Global Privacy Assembly (GPA), the world’s largest international conference on personal information, will be held in Seoul.

Chairperson Go stated, “This will be an important opportunity for a new discussion that reflects the Asian perspective in personal information norms that have so far been centered on Europe and the United States,” and he urged, “Please prepare diligently to ensure that this becomes an opportunity to lead the flow of discussion well.”
